A Preschool Teacher, or Early Childhood Teacher, is a childcare professional who takes care of and educates students around three to four years old. Their main duties include teaching children about basic fundamentals, like numbers, color, and shapes, helping children build their social skills, and keeping the classroom clean and safe for all of the students and Teachers. Including

  • Establish and enforce rules of behavior for children in their classrooms
  • Provide basic needs for children
  • Provide tools and resources for children to use and explore during learning and play activities
  • Adapt teaching methods and materials to meet the interests and learning styles of children
  • Develop and maintain positive relationships with children and parents
  • Manage classroom activities including lessons, play, breaks, and meals

 

Minimum Required Education

 A high school diploma, a certificate of
high school equivalence, or courses for
credit from an accredited college or
university
 Six semester hours or 90 clock hours or
their equivalent of approved pre-service
training, or hold the CDA
 Nine clock hours of approved pre-service
training in communicating with staff,
parents, and the public
 At least one of the following:
 One year of experience working under
supervision primarily with
preschoolers in a licensed childcare
center, nursery school, church-operated school, or similar setting, or
as a registered family child care
provider caring for preschoolers; or
 One year at an accredited college, or a
combination of experience and college
that together are equivalent to one
year
